Team Aon Ford Focus driver James Nash will travel to Bratislava in Slovakia for the next two races in this years World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) on Sunday 29th April. Rising star Nash is feeling optimistic for his prospects on the Slovakia Ring circuit which features on the WTCC calendar for the very first time.
Nash, 26 from Milton Keynes is still on a high from winning his first Championship points and scoring Ford’s best-ever result in the modern era of the WTCC last time out in Marrakech in only his and his team’s third-ever WTCC event.
There is though, another reason too for Nash’s optimism. For the first time this season, both he and his team-mate Tom Chilton will be driving on a track that will be unfamiliar for all, not just Team Aon. Accordingly, for this next weekend at least both drivers need not be playing catch-up to the front-runners once practice gets under way.
James Nash: “I’m really looking forward to the Slovakian event. We’re going to be racing on a circuit that as far as I know nobody in the WTCC will have raced on previously, certainly not the top runners anyway and it’ll mean that we start on a more equal footing.”
‘Not only are we of course developing the new Ford Focus this season, but with it being our first WTCC campaign we’ve also had to contend with rolling up at tracks with no data from previous years. We’re competing against others who’ve got several seasons’ worth of experience and technical knowledge to go by so time spent dialling in the car to the track is valuable refining time lost. At least in Slovakia we won’t be the only ones fishing for answers from the start of practice."
